In the ever-evolving landscape of movement disorders & functional neurosurgery, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has emerged as the dominant procedure for various clinical indications. As a result, stereotactic lesioning techniques have gradually faded from the spotlight, both in clinical practice and in the training of young neurosurgeons. However, there are a significant subset of movement disorders like Focal Hand Dystonia (FHD), other segmental and hemi-dystonias, one side tremors of any kind (including those due to Parkinson’s Disease and Essential tremors (ET), etc wherein Lesioning surgery is actually the TREATMENT OF CHOICE! Added to these are the economic, geographic, and other reasons, and hence there remains a significant future demand for well-controlled and skilfully performed stereotactic lesioning procedures to benefit patients who require functional neurosurgery.
Recognizing the need to preserve and pass on the invaluable expertise in stereotactic functional lesioning techniques, a group of senior, international functional neurosurgeons came together in 2012 to establish the Noble Art of Lesioning forum. Their mission was to provide ongoing practical courses designed to teach younger colleagues the art and science of stereotactic lesioning procedures. The current version is called “Lesioning v3.0”!
Through their comprehensive curriculum, we, the gen-next, aim to empower our peers and younger neurosurgeons with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to perform proper stereotactic functional lesioning techniques. Drawing from the vast experience & training accorded to us by these senior functional neurosurgeons, we offer a platform wherein hands-on training, case discussions, and theoretical lectures that cover the entire spectrum of stereotactic lesioning procedures will be made available – both onsite and online. Our course combines the latest advancements in the field with a deep respect for the historical significance and artistry of this neurosurgical discipline.
At the Noble Art of Lesioning, we recognize that while stimulation techniques enjoy substantial industry support, lesioning techniques have been overshadowed. However, we firmly believe in the value and importance of preserving this essential aspect of functional neurosurgery. By bridging the knowledge gap and promoting the continued practice of stereotactic lesioning techniques, we aspire to ensure that future generations of neurosurgeons can provide optimal and appropriate care to patients in need.
To be the global ‘go to’ leader in preserving and advancing the noble art of stereotactic lesioning techniques, while empowering neurosurgeons to provide optimal & appropriate care for patients in need.
Our mission is not only to preserve and pass on the invaluable expertise in stereotactic lesioning techniques to younger neurosurgeons through practical courses led by experienced functional neurosurgeons, but also to help each of them to set up a viable practise in their regions. We are committed to promoting the art
